Each of these photographic pairings is composed of two images. One, shot in February 1998, depicts the deserted military architecture in the Marin Headlands above San Francisco. The other, shot in July 1999, focuses on abandoned resort architecture on the Caribbean island of Saint Marten. The paired images were made in places geographically far from one and other, however the formal visual similarities of the photographs and the architectures they depict encourage the viewer to examine the relationships between war, tourism, vision and the landscape. They are large color Cibachrome prints mounted on plexiglass.
