Since 1996 I have been committed to turning “wasted time” into productive studio time by actively making art during my commute. Since then, I have been documenting “incidental” works of art. These works are created outside of the traditional museum/gallery context by my self and a large group of unwitting collaborators who produce marks, arrangements of objects, sounds, or situations that can be formally or conceptually linked to the artistic production of various historical avant-garde movements. I document the work of these anonymous agents by capturing their compositions within the spaces of my everyday life.
#incidentalart represents one of the primary components of my every-day studio practice – a stream of images from my daily commute are captured, edited and uploaded to Instagram with the hashtag #incidentalart. This exhibition showcases some of my favorite recent images from this series.
